During a series of adrenaline-fueled one-night gigs, itinerant punk-metal drummer Ruben (Riz Ahmed) begins to experience intermittent hearing loss. When a specialist tells him his condition will rapidly worsen, he thinks his music career — and with it his life — is over. His bandmate and girlfriend Lou (Olivia Cooke) checks the recovering heroin addict into a secluded sober house for the deaf in hopes it will prevent a relapse and help him learn to adapt to his new situation. But after being welcomed into a community that accepts him just as he is, Ruben has to choose between his equilibrium and the drive to reclaim the life he once knew. Utilizing startling, innovative sound design techniques, director Darius Marder takes audiences inside Ruben’s experience to vividly recreate his journey into a rarely examined world.

Sound of Metal (2020) is the new drama starring Riz Ahmed, Olivia Cooke and Paul Raci.

  1. Wasn't expecting the lead to be so good because he looked familiar but hadn't left an impression on where I'd seen him before. You'll remember this.

  2. My heart is pounding so fast. I love music it’s just as important to me as my other senses. I have autism and as a downside I’m extremely sensitive and sometimes my 5 senses are my worst enemy but I still love them and being able to experience everything. The first time my Medical teacher told me about this condition I had to stop myself from crying. Pain is something I’m very much used to and I know how hard it is to be different and to have something taken away from you. I’m going to see this movie and hopefully not cry too much. I’d much rather be aware of these things then blissfully ignorant though. For anyone struggling like this or like me just know you’re not alone and you’re way stronger than you think.

  3. Does the movie have forced subs?!can't watch a movie with subs, too distracting. Why not make them optional so everyone wins and stop catering to just one group of people? 🤔

  4. I make music too after watching this movie, I only use earbuds/headphones while mixing my tracks and after it's mastered

  5. Hearing music through his pov with his cochlear? Was so shattering for me because I have such an emotional tie to music so imaging having to hear music in that way? I’d feel lost

  6. Yupp! take heed kids…ear plugs are the way.I shot my ears to fuck over the years being in bands and have constant tinnitus as a result which unless you experience it you can never understand it.

  7. After ending his career in Ibiza Frankie Wilde decided to try his chops at playing in a metal band, See whats next in It's All Gone Pete Tong 2

  8. I’m a drummer. I played all my life. Many bands My hearing is so FUCKED up. I have tinnitus like you would not believe. My ears ring so loud 24/7. ITS HORRIBLE. I will never hear silence aging. EVER.

  9. I'm surprised that this movie won 🏆 the award for the best sound at the Academy Awards.

    I just can't believe it.

  10. I’m so use to having subtitles on I didn’t even notice they were part of the trailer

  11. I learned about this amazing actor after watching "the night of" an HBO miniseries, one of the best movies I've ever seen, will surely be watching the movie too hope he wins an Oscar lets go Riz!
