One of our main pitches for this upcoming series revolves around a new set of characters with no-tie to the 2019 Detective Pikachu Movie. After all, we weren’t exactly the biggest fans of the film. This means that Netflix’s Live-Action Pokemon series needs to find a new lead Pokemon. Yes, we’re talking about saying goodbye to Pikachu… at least for a while.

With that said we have given ourselves the impossible task of trying to find a Pokemon that is can take over the mantle from Pikachu. This is 10 Pokemon That Could and Should Lead the Series.

NEWS ABOUT THE PROJECT 📰
In July 2021, Variety reported that a new Pokemon series is in early development at Netflix. The show is still in early development so no details are available about the plot.

Joe Henderson is attached to write and executive produce. Henderson currently serves as co-showrunner and executive producer on the popular Netflix series “Lucifer,” which wrapped up its final season at the streaming giant.

It is also being reported that the project would be a live-action series akin to the “Detective Pikachu” film starring Ryan Reynolds and Justice Smith that was released in 2019.

The move to develop an original Netflix Pokemon series comes as the streamer has made itself the home to multiple existing Pokemon shows, including “Pokemon: Indigo League” and “Pokemon Journeys” among others. Netflix has also been making a strong push into anime in recent years, having previously announced original series based on “Far Cry,” “Splinter Cell,” and “Terminator.” Netflix has been moving into more live-action adaptations of anime titles as well, including the upcoming “Cowboy Bebop” and “One Piece” live-action shows. The streamer previously released a live-action “Death Note” film in 2017.

  2. lucario and riolu always meshed with me. Their aura pokemon and as weird as it sounds I felt a connection to their aura when I saw them for the first time on the screen. From the resonating aura of riolu calling out to me and the strong presence of lucario when I saw him on the mystery of mew. I could easily see them in the live action. Mostly cause they feel as though despite being in a show they are real beyond their world.

  3. Charmander better not be the main pokemon… Tired of seeing that shitty, over-rated mon. There's so many better pokemon that can fit his spot in your list better

  6. Not to be a downer but Nintendo would never let this fly and if they do you best believe Pikachu is gonna be the starter because to then he is still super profitable..

  7. Charizard no doubt. Look at what those cards sold for in 2021. It’s popular. This is a nostaligic character for the dads wanting to watch it with their kids too. And aligns with the (3) starter options from the original video games.

    I wouldn’t mind if they kept pikachu. But I kinda feel that my brain would just imagine Ryan Reynolds the entire time.

  13. I really think evee should be the main Pokémon Eevee was actually post to be inside the place of Pikachu in the franchise and they have let’s go Pikachu and let’s go Eevee it is just a iconic

  25. I like some options like by my opinion
    Chikorita – Would be a attractive to male and female audience, and show a little more of love for this adorable bean.
    Caterpie and Lucario – my personal favorites. But i don't think they'd shine as they should in a live action, as the main pokemon. Lucario isn't always that appealing to ppl that are not used to pokemon
    Gible – it could be interesting, it's cute, appealing, nice fights, popular, a lot of my friends who don't like pokemon, like gible
    Vulpix would be neat if the rival had the other version.
    Eevee – I alwaays approve eevee and opportunities for new eevelutions

  26. Eevee and charmander are definitely faves but there are a lot that could work as leads if the story and art are done right. I hope that they continue with the same style as the detective Pikachu movie, I absolutely adore that movie and hope they make more movies like that as well as I want to know what happens now with all the characters.

  27. This could either be great or shit. If it’s not the director and cgi team from detective pikachu. Then don’t even bother.

  29. Please take off the mantle off pikachu. I’m tired of hearing every dam pokemon being called a “pikachu”
