Fascism Returns in Italy: Giorgia Meloni Claims Victory, Allied with Right-Wing Parties

Italy’s first far-right leader since Benito Mussolini, Giorgia Meloni, has declared victory. Her Brothers of Italy party is allied with Spain’s far-right Vox party, Poland’s ruling nationalist Law and Justice party and the Sweden Democrats party, which emerged out of its neo-Nazi movement. We look at “the return of fascism in Italy” with professor Ruth Ben-Ghiat, author of “Strongmen: Mussolini to the Present,” who says that Meloni, a self-declared conservative, “really sees her party as carrying the heritage of fascism into today.” Ben-Ghiat also describes why Meloni is part of a “transnational design” to create a far-right political culture across Europe.

  1. Nothing can be worse than Western style "democracies" which is twisted and interpreted according to political whims, usually leftist ones. Freedom of speech and more importantly freedom of thought has disappeared in the West as have traditions. Democracy is being used to destroy so social fabric and as a stick to beat other people over by US and NATO neo-colonialism.

  2. Fascism. Thats exactly what we now
have in the United States now without it being "elected", under the greed and corruption of the Demiratz (and of course, Rethuglicans). You STINK Amy !

  3. Well, well, well… and remember when AGENT ORANGE was saying those Italian voting machines hacked the US machines ? I think that was projection… Italians cannot be that Stupid to vote this female Mussolini in office w/o cheating or just apathy. 🤦🏽‍♂️

  4. Maloney: Watch them call me a fascist because I’m a nationalist Christian

  5. Fascism Webster Dictionary : often capitalized : a political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition.

  6. ……. This is a Sad and Concerning Day for Europe

…. History truly does repeat itself.

    "We Have Learned Nothing"

  7. Human Catastrophe in the making in plain sight, in the 21st Century ! History repeating itself? Once a Fascist always a Fascist as a default, or what ? Repeat 1933 ? With which outcome in todays World? The obsession of a Death Cult?

  8. Yes, first in 1922, now in 2022. How fitting. It really seems that fascism is a pinnacle of Western civilization.

  9. Conservatism is just Fascism with extra steps. It might take conservatives a little longer, but both eventually end up in the same place.

  10. Ok,so if you regard a normal family as the standard and ignore homosexuality it makes you a fascist. Ok,I'm a fascist.

  11. Dark days ahead in Europe … pray everyone we dont get a huge war in Europe… this is how Hitler's politics started, hate towards immigrants and communists … holy shit, i cant believe we're about to have a huge crisis and possible war in europe

  12. "Fascism returns in Italy" the best clickbait title of the year. 😂😂😂 Also, in Italy we have a bunch of qualified historians of Fascism: everybody would tell you that Fini first, and Meloni after him managed to turn the MSI from a neofascist party to a right wing conservative neoliberal and pro-Nato party. In short, FdI is a bad copy of the -enth Southern European conservative "Christian" party which is gonna oblige us to swallow another decade of austerity and annihilation of welfare state and workers' rights. I do not comment Ben Ghiat Mumbojumbo cause I do my best to be a gentleman. PS: I did not vote for Meloni, of course.

  13. I’m gay and can’t stand lgbt 🤣 am i an extremist? A whole lot of complex issues exist in lgbt ideologies. Lgbt does not represent all gay people if fact it misrepresents us… in my opinion.

  14. This is what international bankers and wall street that our Democrats in these countries have done but selling the people out! They know cultural issues as abortion, immigration lgbt and anti-semitism is how they win as we see Republicans in the US have done. It all comes down to economic struggle being ignored and the fascist use it successfully! Biden is doing it right now here with watching our elderly starve and they do nothing! Watch…

  15. oh well what is done is done. They'll have to live with whatever outcome happens from now on until the next election.

  16. It amazes me how the right will defend their idea of the basic family with the woman being subservent to the man and family, but will follow a woman playing a man's role in their world view. At least here in the United States, the right tends to have a "know your role attitude" towards women.

  17. Look what the radical left has done to California, Oregon and Washington State.
The far left (most of you on here) and far right are both abhorrent.
A Western, Liberal, secular democracy must be ruled from the CENTER.
You are all part of a cult and you don't even know it. Sad.

Assange insegna.

  19. Italy has been a corporate fascist state since way before and since WW2 as has the UK and France and… Transnational Italian capitalist corporatism was, literally at times and differing scales in the late-1940s to mid-1980s, propped up by the CIA to ensure that a popular far left coalition never gains power there (or anywhere). Rightwing American idiots haven't a clue that their ex-hero Lincoln (now derided as a lefty sellout!) founded the Republican party on the main premise of corporatism and 'gunboat diplomacy' and outsourced militarist-privatism within the 'American sphere' (the entire Americas). Most people forget that one of the first militia-then-military test-case precedential US colonies was Florida (for example). There has always been a 'liberal' party in the US whose supporters mostly were against US military or private-militia adventurism anywhere, and the opposite true as well (the horrors committed by US troops in the Philippine colonization/'liberation' divided American society strongly between those openly supporting genocidal colonialism and those fully against it, the only reason it wasn't such a riotous affair amongst white Americans like during the Vietnam War, was the fact that there was no military draft for the at-first-universally-popular Spanish-American War). Most people think that US violent and corrupt involvement with trying to control the entire Americas by ensuring 'friendly' (US corporate and military advantage) governments started in the late 1890s, but in fact it started in the late 1790s with American goals to finish off and go even further by stealthier-violent and/or corrupt means what the British started or contingency-desired: kicking the French and Spanish out of North and central America south of Canada and taking the areas or resources or establishing monopolistic-'client'-status for the US property class WASP male selves. Most of US moves for colonization were originally instigated by, or stealthily-strongly-supported, by rich power elites using 'private' militias and/or organized armed-colonists, most often totally illegally at the time according to US law, but with minimal pushback by the national or local 'conservative' US political majority or president in power at the time, only to be deemed illegal and a mistake by the next 'liberal' majority or president and/or the slow-acting courts, and things put on hold in a mostly 'having your cake and eating it too' fait-accompli, only for the next 'conservative' political majority or president to put their weight and official US policy of establishing US hegemony and/or sovereignty where 'American' (WASP) colonists already are, regardless of their relative numbers to intergenerational previous residents or indigenous people's. The US private-then-government overthrow and colonization of the democratic constitutional monarchy of Hawaii is a good more obvious early example of that, and a huge precedent for future off-continental-US colonial policies.

  20. We learn from history, that we don’t learn a thing from history. Mussolini, Hitler, and Satan are smiling while glancing up from hell.

  21. Won an election not a dictatorship. The Italians chose her and give her a chance to rule. It’s time for a change!

  22. The only thing that could make her win sweeter are videos like this, decrying anything they disagree with as fascism.

Viva Italia! Viva Giorgia Meloni! 🇮🇹

  23. Another case of the left smearing someone that does not agree with them by calling names that aren't true. They don't debate policy, just smear smear smear!
