Famine by October? Somalia & East Africa Face Humanitarian Crisis Amid Climate Change, Ukraine War

We look at the devastating effects of climate change and global inequity in East Africa, and how many countries face drought and a looming famine, with guests in Mogadishu, Somalia, and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. “The current unprecedented drought, that is a result of four consecutive failed rainy seasons, with the fifth and the sixth projected to also be below average, is causing a huge food insecurity,” says Adam Abdelmoula, the U.N.’s humanitarian coordinator for Somalia. “I think the agenda for Africa now is food sovereignty,” adds Million Belay, coordinator at the Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa.

  1. Climate change? Wikipedia: "Owing to Somalia's proximity to the equator, there is not much seasonal variation in its climate. Hot conditions prevail year-round along with periodic monsoon winds and irregular rainfall. Mean daily maximum temperatures range from 30 to 40 °C (86 to 104 °F), except at higher elevations along the eastern seaboard, where the effects of a cold offshore current can be felt."

  2. As always the UN is late for this calamities ! The information has been out there for the past 2 years that North Africa and the middle east, was going to have famine ! The UN is good for nothing only wasting everybody's money !

  3. I was in Somalia three times in the 1990's and I participated in a massive lie while acting as logistics for MSF Spain. Nothing was done to improve the circumstances in Somalia even though the Potential for Agricultural along the Shabelle River is way way better than frozen Canadian gumbo on the farm in Canada. Read Wayne Longs article published in a major US magazine on how western NGO's used aid as a coercion as an example of how to influence policy.

  4. When you call famine "food insecurity" you do yourself a grave disservice. It strips it of its urgency and impact.

  5. only together we can become a great human. strong enough to end all wars, n fight climate
(life quality would be it`s way)

  6. Most people, especially those that push the anthropogenic climate change lie, have no idea what climate is.

  7. Give the US three years and we'll start looking a lot like Somalia and Ethiopia. Monsanto/Bayer will gladly help. Republicans: Making America Great for Annihilation.

  8. Of course no one cares cause their's no blonde hair and blue eyes civilized people here! America throws away enough food in one day to feed the entire population of Somalia! Remember jim crow joe biden just sent military troops to Somalia but no food for the starving! THIS IS A CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY!

  9. And the BANDITS are busy killing innocent people in the name of protecting the stolen land!!!

  10. My heart ♥️ goes out to these poor people 7.1 million Africans 🌍might die based on food, insecurity but the United States gave over $70 billion to Ukraine 🇺🇦 one of the most corrupt European governments that’s not even part of NATO the sad truth is the only answer for Africa is the lake chad restoration project it is the only way to save Africa at this point

  11. The longest coastline in Africa, yet people are hungry? This doesn't make sense to anyone with a brain.

  12. While I appreciate the insanity of the current situation it's been proven that Ukraine's bellyaching about grain shipments was a false narrative with all but 2 shipments going to Europe. While we're showing the plight of Somalia which is grave Yemen and Palestine are facing the same if not worse and silence.

  13. Well UN person! How the He'll could your obviously useless UN allow this to happen.welcome to the new world orde people. AN ABOMINATION TO ALLOW PEOPLE TO SUFFER LIKE THIS.

  14. So far this year, we've had zero hurricanes despite being 13 weeks into hurricane season. How can the climate change alarmists and "experts" explain this?

  15. It's called weather. Droughts have been happening for millions of years before humans even arrived.

  16. After the ports are demined and grains shipped out of Ukraine, 2 ships out of 87 went to developing nations, while the EU took the rest 96%.
    Absolute disgrace.

  17. Glad to hear this, dont give food to the people overpopulating we are creating the problem of over population so that we can control these people or the resources they live over. Enough already, if you cant grow food in your country and support the inhabitants, maybe you shouldn't live there.

  18. Hey Amy, can you explain why there is none of Jewish politicians in Congress or Senate voted against the war fundings for Ukraine ? Or you pretend not to knowing 🤭

  19. Who wants to bet that any excess food they can be sold for a profit will be going there and increase the likelihood that we will experience something similar because of the outflow of food. Any takers?
