The prime minister is announcing strict new curbs on life in the UK to tackle the spread of coronavirus.

From this evening people must stay at home except for shopping for basic necessities, daily exercise, any medical need and travelling to and from essential work.

Shops selling non-essential goods will also be shut and gatherings in public of more than two people who do not live together prohibited.

If people do not follow the rules police will have the powers to enforce them, including through fines and dispersing gatherings, Boris Johnson said in a televised statement from Downing Street.

  1. "we will defeat the coronavirus" aged well. 2 years later it is rife everywhere and they remove everything and pretend it doesn't exist

  2. "the time has now come" and " you must stay at home" sends shivers, a day none of us will ever forget

  3. You must stay at Home but you can still go out, 1 month after 1st lockdown hundreds of thousands went to the sea fronts you can't go round friends but number 10 parties like no tomorrow, you can't have a party but number 10 can, you can't meet family members you should say no but number 10 can do anything remember 6 per house housed but yet never made sense and turned out everyone was mixing Households and they said 1 million could die in England within 6 months and now 2 years later 160,581 have died so yes the pubic did amazing but number 10 didn't

  4. as a critical worker, shortly after this announcement I and my colleagues were in York surveying a sewer and I'll never forget driving on empty motorways and a lovely lady in York thanking us for what we were doing.

  5. Did Boris Johnson have a dead cat on his head? Or did the cat have some kind of muck stuck to the tail???

  6. The history GCSE 10 mark question in about 100 years: “please outline the guidelines announced by prime minister boris Johnson during the 2020 coronavirus outbreak (23rd march 2020) [10 marks + 3 SPaG]”

  7. So we scare people into going to hospital even when 98% of people were in no danger. Trap them in there home instead where the disease spreads easiest and people get sick and have accidents. All sounds sensible.
